If you're going to make an improvement to the exterior of your home, you want it to look different when you're done. However, you may not want to spend a small fortune to upgrade your home's facade. Is it possible to renovate your exterior without the high price tag? Of course it is! Here are some exterior house renovation projects that will make a big difference in your home's appearance without making you empty your wallet.
Replace the Front Door
When people arrive at your home, they generally knock-on and stand in front of the front door. As such, they spend more time looking at the front door than at the rest of your home. Plus, the front door often serves as the focal point of your home when viewed from the front. So, a new front door can make your whole home exterior look nicer. If you want this improvement to make a big difference, then pick a front door that's quite different from the one you have now. If you have a natural wood door, replace it with a brightly colored one. If you have a white door, replace it with a wood one.
Paint the Trim
Painting your entire home exterior is a big project that might break your budget. But painting just the trim is a much smaller endeavor. You can even do this project yourself if you are comfortable climbing on a ladder. Look for a trim color that's quite different from the current trim color, but one that still looks nice with your home's base color. For example, if your home is currently white with blue trim, painting all the trim mauve will completely transform your whole home's look—and will probably only take you one weekend and a couple gallons of paint.
Another quick and easy way to improve your home's look is to add shutters to the windows. You don't even need to have them added to all of your windows. Even adding shutters to two windows on either side of the front door can really draw the eyes to these windows and change your home's overall look. Most window companies and siding companies install shutters, and this should be a rather affordable, one-day job.
You don't have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to change the look of your home's exterior. Instead, consider making one or more of the small changes above.
